Foster parents are often the heroes of the child welfare system, and they are often unrepresented. When foster parents seek counsel, many lawyers, even family and adoption lawyers, struggle to offer useful advice. Training in representing foster parents isn’t commonly available.
This one-hour course is a basic orientation to the legal circumstances of foster parents, including their right to notice, participation, and representation in their foster child’s legal proceedings, preference of relatives and foster parents, changes in custody, and policy-level considerations.
